Innovation Center at UMO

Project Location: Orono, Maine
Project Scope: Bowman Constructors was chosen to build the $1.5 milllion, 5,000 sf Innovation Center. We were given – and met – a 15-month deadline. The Innovation Center is nestled on a hillside oak grove in the center of the University of Maine campus and includes an open-air team workspace, private work rooms for developing presentations, a conference room, a seminar room, offices for faculty advisors, and an “inspiration space" for chance encounters. We used locally manufactured products (46%), low VOC finishes, low flow fixtures that reduced water consumption by 20%, and we recycled almost all construction waste (91%). The result? A beautiful, useful building that received
LEED Silver designation – a first for the UMaine campus.

Wingate Hall at UMO

Project Location: Orono, ME
Project Scope: Total Building Renovation – University of Maine
Wingate Hall was built in 1891-92 and was designed by Kidder and Humphreys of Denver, Colorado. This two-story five by four bay Classical Revival building has gone through a devastating fire (previously a three story with a tower) and many remodels. In 1993, Bowman was awarded the contract to update the facility’s accessibility to comply with the Americans with Disability Act. A three stop elevator was added to the building as part of this contract.
